At SFSS, we believe in exploring the best shooting experiences South Florida has to offer by attending events hosted at top ranges throughout the region. Our members regularly gather to participate in thrilling events like Action Steel, Steel Challenge, USPSA matches, and clay shooting. These activities provide opportunities to test and improve shooting skills in a variety of exciting formats, all while fostering camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts. Whether it’s hitting precision targets, competing in speed challenges, or enjoying the dynamic nature of clay shooting, there’s something for everyone.

In addition to competitive events, SFSS members often attend tactical training sessions, beginner-oriented courses, and concealed weapons classes together. These events are hosted by Suburban Protector's instructors at various ranges, offering hands-on learning experiences tailored to participants' skill levels and goals. By attending these events as a group, members enjoy the benefits of shared learning, mutual encouragement, and an enhanced sense of community. Our role is to organize and promote participation in these events, ensuring every member has access to opportunities for growth, challenge, and fun.

Steel Challenge is a popular and fast-paced action shooting sport that emphasizes speed and accuracy. Competitors use pistols or rifles to shoot at an array of steel targets arranged in standardized stages, each designed to test shooting skills and consistency. The sport includes divisions for different firearms, such as rimfire pistols, centerfire handguns, and pistol-caliber carbines, making it accessible to shooters of various skill levels and preferences. Steel Challenge is known for its unique combination of precision and adrenaline, as participants race against the clock to hit all the targets in the correct order. It’s a family-friendly competition that attracts both seasoned competitors and newcomers, offering a supportive and exciting environment to improve shooting proficiency.

Courses/Trainings

Suburban Protector offers a comprehensive range of courses designed to empower individuals with essential skills in firearm safety, home defense, and personal security. We provide firearm training for all experience levels, from basic handling and safety to advanced tactical shooting, along with home defense strategies and situational awareness training. Training is conducted at ranges throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties, as well as at our private outdoor training range in Okeechobee. This exclusive facility allows us to simulate real-life scenarios and includes three vehicles for dynamic, scenario-based training, ensuring clients gain practical skills and confidence in a controlled but realistic environment.

Open Range Days by Suburban Protector

Suburban Protector’s Open Range Day at Declaration Defense is an exciting opportunity for individuals to practice their shooting skills in a safe, private setting. We rent out the private side of the range, featuring five dedicated lanes, and provide all necessary ear and eye protection. For those who don’t own a firearm, we offer the chance to learn and shoot with some of our own guns. The event costs $50 per person and covers everything except ammunition. Participants also receive group instruction and coaching to improve their skills and confidence. With a maximum of 10 participants, we limit the event to two individuals per lane, ensuring a smooth rotation—while one person is loading magazines, the other can shoot. This setup offers a perfect balance of practice time, personalized instruction, and a fun, supportive atmosphere.

The Action Steel Shooting Competition is a more advanced and challenging event, perfect for shooters who are confident in their firearm handling and movement skills. Unlike stationary shooting sports, Action Steel requires competitors to engage steel targets while on the move, navigating through dynamic courses with varying target layouts and distances. This fast-paced competition demands precision, speed, and situational awareness, making it ideal for experienced shooters seeking to elevate their skills. With its emphasis on movement and complex stage designs, Action Steel provides an exciting and rewarding experience for those ready to take their shooting to the next level. It’s a true test of both technical ability and tactical execution.

USPSA

USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) competitions are dynamic and highly technical shooting events that challenge participants to combine speed, accuracy, and strategy. Shooters navigate a series of stages that simulate real-world scenarios, requiring them to engage paper and steel targets from various positions, often while on the move and using cover. USPSA emphasizes problem-solving, as competitors must determine the most efficient way to complete each stage while balancing speed and precision. Divisions are based on firearm types, allowing a wide range of participants to compete with their preferred setups, from stock handguns to highly customized race guns. With its focus on skill and versatility, USPSA is an exciting competition for shooters looking to test and refine their abilities in a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled environment.

Clay shooting is an exciting and challenging sport that tests precision, timing, and coordination.
